The health of our staff is our primary concern
As part of its responsibility as an employer, the Munich Re Group actively encourages all members of staff to look after and maintain their health through prophylactic mental and physical training.
Some years ago, we launched the Fit at Work programme at Munich Re, and in the ERGO Insurance Group we offer a wide range of health-promoting measures.
Our company medical officers
-
—
examine employees before they join the company, assess their fitness for work, and offer medical advice,
-
—
attend to the medical needs of staff and visitors,
-
—
ensure a first-aid service is always available,
-
—
offer advice on occupational medicine to company management and staff responsible for occupational safety and prevention of accidents,
-
—
help employees to stay healthy through preventive measures, for example back training and inoculations.
Fit at Work – Key examples
All Munich Re staff are entitled to a free and comprehensive health check every two years, including an individual consultation in all matters of health. In addition, in all of our Group companies we have compiled a series of information leaflets about smoking and how to sit properly at the workplace. Different measures relating to health information and prophylactics – for example flu vaccinations, back training and relaxation courses – round off the range of services on offer.
The ERGO Management Academy (EMA) runs a seminar for managers teaching them how to deal with stress. At Hamburg-Mannheimer, employees have rest areas – their own swimming pool and special sports facilities at the Hamburg-Mannheimer HQ supplement healthcare provision. The DKV has set up a back-training centre at its headquarters to eliminate one of the most ills of a modern lifestyle: back problems.
Sitting right at the workplace
Office workers spend an average of 80,000 hours at the workplace, 85% of them sitting down. This leads to tension and backache: every third person in Germany now suffers from these symptoms, and the figures are rising. The main cause is not sitting properly at the workplace.
For this reason, office furniture in the Munich Re Group is naturally designed to the highest ergonomic standards. In addition, we offer tips on how to counter the lack of movement that is typical of office workers: Munich Re and MEAG, together with a highly qualified physiotherapist and gymnastics teacher, have devised an "in-between" workplace fitness programme for staff that can be accessed on the intranet.
