Work-life balance
Flexitime, reconciliation of career and family, back-to-work schemes following breaks, a balance between physical and mental activity – these are advantages that the Munich Re Group’s sustainable human resources policy offers to employees as a sign of respect and fairness.
We focus on individuals, encouraging and supporting them and continuously looking for ways to improve the work-life balance and create harmony between career interests and private interests.
Flexitime, new work models
The freedom we give our employees to choose their working hours and place of work is an investment in our shared future. The changing course of life situations should not stop us taking the long-term perspective. From recruitment to career breaks and the subsequent return to work – Munich Re is ready to deal with the changes that professional life brings.
At the same time, we encourage new information and communications technologies, more adaptable work arrangements and working hours. To achieve the best balance between career and family, Munich Re and ERGO offer flexible conditions tailored to individual needs, such as various part-time and telework options.
Since the needs vary according to the individual, employees and their supervisors sit down together to decide how working hours will be divided up. For instance, those who live some distance away from the office may find it convenient to work from home on two or three days a week, whilst the best solution for parents with children of school or kindergarten age might be part-time employment or job-sharing.
The results of the "Deutschlands Beste Arbeitgeber 2007" competition to find Germany’s best employers clearly show that the work-life balance is a subject of particular concern to us, and we offer a range of corresponding measures – from best-practice handling of parenthood issues to flexible part-time schemes and a comprehensive healthcare programme. On all five counts – credibility, respect, fairness, pride and team spirit – our employees gave us above-average scores, and we finished among the top 30 employers in Germany.
