Editorial - We put the principle of sustainability into practice
On closer examination of the principles and main characteristics of insurance, one becomes aware of a natural affinity with key aspects of the principle of sustainability: Insurance is a promise for the future, its business model built on fulfilling obligations from insurance contracts on a durable – in other words, sustainable – basis. The manner in which the Munich Re Group as a major insurance undertaking manages risk has to be marked by a prospective, prudent und responsible approach.
For this reason, we give equal weighting in our business dealings to economic and specifically underwriting-related aspects as well as ecological and social factors. This approach is reflected in our guiding principles for sustainability, determines our defining values, and is expressed in the sustainability strategy that we as a Group pursue.
The sustainability portal provides full and up-to-date information about the way we deal with the demands of sustainable economic development and corresponds to our sustainability reporting. It also illustrates how we actually put the principle of sustainability into practice. And this is not a new departure, as you will quickly realise. I trust you find this look behind the scenes at the Munich Re Group of interest and wish you an enjoyable and "sustainable" read.
With my best regards,
Yours sincerely,
